Jockey Abel Lezcano, who through Wednesday was tied for eighth in the standings at the Del Mar summer meeting with seven wins, has dropped an appeal of a seven-day suspension issued at Los Alamitos earlier this summer. Lezcano’s penalty begins Friday and covers seven racing days through Aug. 31. He will be permitted to ride designated races, or graded stakes, during the suspension. In a ruling published on June 28, Lezcano was cited for careless riding in the ninth race at Los Alamitos on June 27. Track stewards suspended Lezcano for failing to maintain a straight course and causing an incident in which another rider was unseated. The suspension was scheduled to start on July 18, the opening day of the Del Mar meeting. The current Del Mar meeting has been the highlight of Lezcano’s year. The 35-year-old had 11 wins this year prior to the start of the current meeting. :: Play to Win at Del Mar! Get DRF Past Performances, Clocker Reports, Picks, and Betting Strategies all in one place.
