Lexie Lou will miss Buena Vista with minor foot injury

ARCADIA, Calif. – Lexie Lou, famous for beating males in the 2014 Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, will miss the $200,000 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita on Feb. 16 after suffering a minor foot injury in January.
Trainer Mark Casse said Lexie Lou has been plagued in the past by a foot abscess. The 4-year-old filly missed a few days of training after finishing second Jan. 17 in the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes, Casse said. Lexis Lou currently is in light training.
“She has a foot that bothers her,” Casse said. “It’s not something new. She had a foot abscess before the [Woodbine] Oaks, and we were able to get her over it.”
Lexie Lou won the Woodbine Oaks last June in her start before the Queen’s Plate. Casse said similar circumstances occurred before Lexie Lou won the Grade 3 Autumn Miss Stakes at a mile on turf for 3-year-olds fillies here last October.
Casse said the Buena Vista at a mile “was a little short for her anyway.”
“We’ll bide our time,” he said. “This little setback gives me a reason not to run.”
Owned by Gary Barber, Lexie Lou has won 7 of 17 career starts and earned $1,469,714. Last November, Lexie Lou finished second to California Chrome in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar.
