Lexie Lou tops 2019 ballot for Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Lexie Lou, the 2014 Canadian Horse of the Year, is among the 30 horses and people that have been selected to appear on the voting ballot for induction into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame this year. A 20-person election committee for each breed (Thoroughbred and Standardbred) will determine the winners in the respective categories. The results will be announced on April 9.
Lexie Lou became just the sixth filly to sweep the Queen’s Plate and Woodbine Oaks when she turned the trick in 2014. Aside from being voted Horse of the Year, she also won the Sovereign Awards for champion 3-year-old filly and champion turf female, an award that she also captured in 2016.
Joining Lexie Lou in the Thoroughbred female horse category are the Grade 1 winners Hard Not to Like and Marketing Mix.
The finalists in the Thoroughbred veteran horse category are 1983 Rothmans International winner All Along, 1991 Queen’s Plate victor and Preakness runner-up Alydeed, and 1986 Canadian Broodmare of the Year Loudrangle.
The jockey ballot consists of Mickey Walls, Richard Dos Ramos, and Gary Boulanger, who was among the leading riders at Woodbine last year.
The Thoroughbred trainer category is made up of Josie Carroll, Mike Keogh, and Danny Vella.
The Thoroughbred builder category comprises the late Phillip Kives, the late Sam Lima, and Bory Margolus.
The horses up for consideration on the Standardbred side are Great Memories, Put On A Show, Tricky Tooshie, Angus Hall, Earl, and Shadow Play. The Standardbred people are Luc Ouellett, Trevor Richie, Larry Walker, John Bax, Bill Robinson, Jimmy Takter, Ian Fleming, J. Hugh Proudfoot, and Alain Veilleux.
The 2019 Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Aug. 7 at the Mississauga Convention Center.
