The Lewis Dinner tops female division of New York Stallion Stakes
OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The Lewis Dinner and Disco Partner look to be formidable favorites in their respective divisions of the New York Stallion Stakes for 2-year-olds, the co-features on Sunday’s nine-race program at Aqueduct.
The Lewis Dinner, winner of the Key Cents Stakes at Aqueduct on Nov. 16, tops a field of six entered in the $150,000 Fifth Avenue for 2-year-old fillies. Disco Partner, a well-backed debut winner on Halloween, faces seven juvenile males in the $150,000 Great White Way. Both races, restricted to progeny of New York-based stallions, are run at six furlongs.
Fifth Avenue division
Key contenders
The Lewis Dinner (Last 3 Beyers: 86-77-66)
* Won her last two by open lengths, including the Key Cents Stakes, in which her final time of 1:11.04 for six furlongs was 1.23 seconds faster than the final time of Regal Minister, who won the Notebook for New York-bred males later on the card.
* Looks to possess the most early speed of any of her five rivals in the field.
* As the 122-pound highweight, will concede 2 to 8 pounds to the field.
Omagoddonna (Last 3 Beyers: 75-72-NA)
* Eased, bled, and was vanned off in debut at Saratoga. Since then, has won two straight, albeit against cheaper company.
* Despite winning her last two, trainer Chris Englehart, who claimed her for $40,000 off a win at Belmont in October, is equipping the filly with blinkers for the first time in this start.
* Englehart said he hopes the blinkers help Omagoddonna run straighter but also said, “I’m thinking she’s got to improve to win this race, so I’m trying to get her to improve.”
* Englehart said Omagoddonna worked well once in blinkers, then just average when she worked again in them. For that reason, Englehart said he plans to cut back the size of the cup she will wear.

Perfect Freud (Last 3 Beyers: 57-63-32)
* Has improved with the addition of blinkers, just missing when third in a $40,000 maiden claimer Nov. 5 and winning first off the claim in a $50,000 maiden for trainer Chip Dutrow on Dec. 3.
Great White Way division
Key contenders
Disco Partner (Last Beyer: 71)
* Well backed at 3-1 in Oct. 31 debut, beat 7-5 favorite Masons Dream by 1 1/2 lengths, pressing the pace three wide throughout under Junior Alvarado. Masons Dream came back to win next start before being eased in Damon Runyon Stakes.
* Trainer Jim Ryerson said eight weeks between starts was due to the fact there was nowhere to run in between races aside from the Notebook Stakes, which would have meant running back on 16 days’ rest.
“He’s a high-strung, little nervous horse. I thought he could use the time,” said Ryerson, who trains the son of Disco Rico for owner-breeder Patricia Generazio. “He always seemed liked he’d be quick, and he seemed to get better and better over time.”
Clockwork (Last 2 Beyers: 68-60)
* First in off-the-turf debut Oct. 24 at Belmont before getting beaten two necks for second when beaten 4 1/4 lengths by Regal Minister in Notebook Stakes at Aqueduct on Nov. 16.
* In the Notebook, he leaned in leaving the starting gate, bumping with Bullheaded Boy and helping cause that one to stumble at the break.
* Good Luck Gus, fifth in the Notebook, came back to win the Damon Runyon Stakes.
* Shows solid work tab leading up to this.
Deputy Busterstone (Last 3 Beyers: 50-33-49)
* Ran to his 1-5 odds in winning an open-company maiden race in the mud Oct. 21 at Finger Lakes.
* In start before maiden win, he was eliminated at the break when slammed at the start and checked back to last in sixth-place finish in New York Breeders’ Futurity.
