Levine wins three at Belmont
Opening day of the Belmont Park fall meet was particularly nice for trainer Bruce Levine, who won three races on Friday's card, including the $105,100 with Clever Electrician.
Clever Electrician, under Ramon Dominguez, won the seven-furlong MacArthur for New York-breds by 1 1/2 lengths over favored Top Shoter, the pacesetter. It was another 5 1/4 lengths back to Mr. Determined in third. Spite the Devil and Beyond Chance completed the order of finish. Beyond Chance was vanned off the track with what appeared to be a leg injury.
Clever Electrician ($6.30) covered the distance in 1:21.58 over a fast track.
The MacArthur was the fifth win from nine starts this year for Clever Electrician, a 5-year-old son of Clever Trick.
Levine also won the opener with Cozy Man and the seventh race with Bubba Sparks.
There were no winning pick six tickets, and a carryover of $36,960 went into Saturday's card.
