Letties Relic upsets heavy choice
Letties Relic, 9-2 under Eduardo Nunez, rallied from far back to upset 1-2 favorite Blue Pepsi Lodge by a length in the $55,000 Hooting Star at Calder.
Blue Pepsi Lodge drew well clear going around the turn of the five-furlong race, had a four- or five-length lead in the stretch, and caved in when the winner came calling.
Mr. Silver tracked the pace four wide into the stretch and faded, finishing third, another 4 3/4 lengths behind.
The race was scheduled for five furlongs on the turf but was moved to the main track due to rain. Cant Stop Me, Dukes Flying Tiger, and Robin des Concorde were scratched.
Letties Relic was timed in 58.37 seconds over a track labeled good and paid $11.80. Owned and trained by Steven Dwoskin, Letties Relic improved his record to 6 wins in 15 starts, and his $35,000 share of the purse raised his earnings by almost 50 percent to $108,140.
