Lemons Forever upsets in 'Oaks'

Lemons Forever, the longest shot in a 14-horse field at 47-1, won the Kentucky Oaks in a stunning upset, rallying widest in the stretch under Mark Guidry to beat Ermine, a 10-1 chance, paying $96.20 to win. Lemons Forever, trained by Dallas Stewart, had eked out an entry-level allowance win Feb. 9 at Oaklawn Park, and finished third in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Stakes at Turfway in her last start, and she broke Friday from post 14. But she still rallied relentlessly in the final quarter-mile, finishing just better than Ermine, who was hung wide on the first turn, but came between horses in the stretch to get second. Favored Balance ran poorly, finishing 11th of 14. Second-choice Bushfire came home third, but was disqualified to sixth for interference in deep stretch, moving Wait a While up to third.
