Lemonaideen earns time off
ARCADIA, Calif. – The 2-year-old filly Lemonaideen earned a brief vacation after winning her debut at Santa Anita on Thursday.
Lemonaideen, by Square Eddie, led throughout a maiden special weight race at 4 1/2 furlongs, winning by 1 1/2 lengths over Californiasummer. After the race, trainer Ed Freeman said Lemonaideen will be sent to Ocean Breeze Farm in Bonsall, Calif. – the former Vessels Stallion Farm – for a brief rest.
Freeman plans to start Lemonaideen in the $100,000 CTBA Stakes for California-bred 2-year-old fillies at Del Mar on July 29. The filly was bred by Paul and Zillah Reddam and is owned by Michael McGrath.
◗ Jockey David Lopez, who finished the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting tied for seventh in the standings with 26 wins, will serve a three-day suspension next week after dropping an appeal issued earlier this year. Lopez was suspended for three days on Feb. 5 for an incident in which he altered course without clearance in a race at Santa Anita on Feb. 4. The amended dates of the suspension will be this coming Thursday through Saturday.
Through Thursday, Lopez, 26, has 26 wins from 191 mounts this year. He won the first stakes of his career aboard Toews On Ice in the William Walker Stakes at Churchill Downs on April 30 for trainer Bob Baffert.
