HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Lemon Lashes will bring a two-race winning streak into Friday’s $42,000 optional-claiming feature at Gulfstream Park. The noteworthy aspect of the modest streak is that the victories came 18 months apart, with the most recent here last month in her first start for trainer Marty Wolfson. Lemon Lashes began her career with trainer John Terranova, finishing ninth over Keeneland’s artificial surface during the spring of 2013. She tried turf for the first time six months later and took readily to the new surface, winning a maiden race at Belmont Park. She then went to the sidelines. Lemon Lashes returned to the track under Wolfson here during the winter, turned in a series of sharp main-track works, then ran to those morning trials to defeat a field of lower-level optional-claiming rivals on turf by 1 3/4 lengths April 15. :: Bet Gulfstream Park with DRF Bets and get FREE access to this article and all of DRF Plus, including Gulfstream selections, video, and real-time analysis. Lemon Lashes likely will face her stiffest competition on Friday from the vastly more experienced pair of Jackie’s Daughter and Will to Shine. Jackie’s Daughter has been idle since rallying from just off the pace to a 2 1/4-length starter-allowance triumph March 19 for trainer Mike Maker. Will to Shine is the speed of the field and continues to hold her form well since being haltered by trainer David Braddy for $62,500 during the winter of 2014. Key contenders Lemon Lashes (Last 3 Beyers: 76-78-36) ◗ Over the last five years, Wolfson owns an 18 percent success rate with a $1.86 return on investment with horses making their second start off a layoff, and a 23 percent mark with a $1.55 ROI with horses coming off a victory, according to DRF Formulator. ◗ The Lemon Drop Kid mare continues to dazzle in the morning. She turned in a bullet half-mile in 47.03 seconds with a huge gallop-out, five furlongs in 59.79, this week. Jackie’s Daughter (Last 3 Beyers: 80-54-66) ◗ Over the last five years, Maker has won at a 22 percent rate with horses coming back from a layoff of 45 days or longer and has been successful 26 percent of the time with trainees coming off a victory, per Formulator. Will to Shine (Last 3 Beyers: 78-77-77) ◗ Braddy calls on jockey Jose Caraballo for today’s assignment. The pair combined to win an optional-claiming race on turf May 1 with the 7-2 Wild About Jass the only previous time they’ve hooked up.
