Lemon Drop Dream going to Churchill

Lemon Drop Dream, who won the Grade 3, $300,000 Count Fleet Sprint Handicap on Thursday at Oaklawn, will now head to Churchill Downs with his next race to be determined, Asmussen said Saturday. Lemon Drop Dream caught Alsvid on the wire for a neck win in the Count Fleet, covering six furlongs in 1:09.15 and earning a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 99.
“He ran huge,” Asmussen said. “Secret Circle had to scratch, and it changed the race completely. It set up really well for him, but he was good enough to get up and he ran a good time. It was a very big win for the horse. He’ll go to Churchill this week from here, and we’ll try to find the right spot.”
Asmussen said Lemon Drop Dream would continue to sprint on the dirt. The horse races for Mike McCarty.
Plans for Alsvid, who dueled with Heitai through a half-mile in 43.60 seconds in the Count Fleet, are to be determined, said Alsvid’s trainer, Chris Hartman. Hartman will be based at Prairie Meadows following Oaklawn.
Heitai, who was the Count Fleet favorite following a string of wins for which he earned triple-digit Beyer Figures, is a candidate for the new $300,000 Evangeline Downs Turf Sprint on June 21, according to his trainer, Karl Broberg.
Derby Trial for Brewing?
Brewing, who won his third straight race in the $100,000 Bachelor at Oaklawn on Friday, could make his next start in the Grade 3, $150,000 Derby Trial at Churchill Downs, trainer D. Wayne Lukas said Saturday. He said no agenda for the horse’s next start had been set, but the one-turn mile race was a consideration. The Derby Trial will be run April 26.
Brewing developed into the top 3-year-old sprinter of the Oaklawn meet, with a maiden win, a victory in the $100,000 Gazebo, and then the Bachelor. He races for his breeder, Zayat Stables.
