Lehr retiring as Churchill track superintendent
Churchill Downs David Lehr has worked at Churchill for 43 years.
David Lehr, who replaced his brother Butch as track superintendent at Churchill Downs in 2012, is retiring from that post effective May 31, it was announced Tuesday by the Louisville, Ky., track.
Jamie Richardson will replace David Lehr as superintendent. Richardson, 46, began working at Churchill in 2010 after nearly 20 years at Laurel and Pimlico in his native Maryland and two years as track superintendent at Oaklawn Park. He will become just the fifth track superintendent in more than 100 years at Churchill, following the Lehr brothers, Thurman Pangburn (1962-81), and Tom Young (1911-61).
David Lehr has worked in various capacities at Churchill for 43 years, many of them alongside his brother, who is living in retirement in Louisville.
