Leggs Galore shows 'em her heels in Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Leggs Galore’s status continues to rise in trainer Phil D’Amato’s Southern California stable.
Saturday, Leggs Galore won her stakes debut, and fourth consecutive start, in the $152,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint for state-breds at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Ricardo Gonzalez, Leggs Galore ($7.60) led throughout the six-furlong race, winning by 3 1/4 lengths over 7-1 Nardini. Leggs Galore was timed in 1:08.90 and earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 86.

“She’s got a straight way of going,” Gonzalez said. “Let her break.”
Leggs Galore set early fractions of 22.84 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 45.09 for a half-mile, leading by at least a length. Mo See Cal chased Leggs Galore for the first half-mile before fading from contention.
“She was doing it so easy,” Gonzalez said. “She was so relaxed.”
Nardini closed from seventh to finish a half-length in front of 6-5 favorite Warren’s Showtime, who closed from eighth of nine to be closest at the finish.
She’s Devoted was fourth, followed by Homehome, Mo See Cal, Florentine Diamond, Hollywood Hills, and Sheza Girly Girl. Florentine Diamond was vanned off the track and taken to trainer Paula Capestro’s stable as a precaution, stewards said.
Warren’s Showtime, a five-time stakes winner, appeared in the first turf sprint of her career in her 16th start on Saturday. Warren’s Showtime was fourth in the 2020 Evening Jewel Stakes for statebred 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs on dirt here last April in her last start in a sprint.
Leggs Galore races for owner and breeder Jack Sims. By Bayern, Leggs Galore has won 4 of 6 starts and earned $202,208. After finishing 10th and eighth in maiden special weight races on dirt at Oaklawn Park last March and April, Leggs Galore has won four consecutive starts in turf sprints at Del Mar and Santa Anita since early August, including a maiden special weight race and two allowance races.
