Lee's Spirit captures the finale at Retama
Lees Spirit could make his next start in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Turf next month at Fair Grounds, and if he does, he will go into the race on a roll. He picked up his third consecutive stakes win Saturday night at Retama Park, when he closed well for a 2 1/2-length score over Acting Zippy in the $50,000 No Le Hace.
Lees Spirit ($6.40) had won the $150,000 A.L. "Red" Erwin at Louisiana Downs and the $50,000 Chick Lang Jr. Memorial on turf at Retama in his two starts prior to the No Le Hace, which was for 3-year-olds and up at a mile on dirt. He covered the distance in 1:40.34.
Don Simington came in to ride Lees Spirit, a 3-year-old who races for S A S Partners and is trained by Bob Schultz. The horse has now won 7 of 14 starts and $291,600.
The No Le Hace closed out the meet at Retama.
