At least eight expected for El Camino Real Derby

As of Tuesday, eight horses have been confirmed for Saturday’s Grade 3, $200,000 Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby for 3-year-olds going 1 1/8 miles on the Tapeta synthetic track at Golden Gate Fields. The race offers 10 points toward the Kentucky Derby.
Conquest Typhoon, a finalist for the Sovereign Award for Canada’s top 2-year-old male, will make his 3-year-old debut under Mike Smith in the El Camino Real. He won the Grade 2 Summer Stakes at Woodbine and the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille at Del Mar and was fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
Mischief Clem, who won the California Cup Derby Jan. 24 at Santa Anita, is coming north after a 59.80 five-furlong work last Saturday under Kent Desormeaux, who will ride him in the El Camino.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who swept the El Camino preps of the Golden Nugget, Gold Rush, and California Derby for the third straight year, will run California Derby winner Cross the Line and Gold Rush winner Stand and Salute, who was third in the California Derby.
Also confirmed for the El Camino Real are Ernest Shackleton, an Irish import who just scored his first U.S. win and will be ridden by champion apprentice Drayden Van Dyke; Indianaughty, an import from Great Britain who just won his U.S. debut at Gulfstream; Metaboss, a recent maiden winner for trainer Jeff Bonde who gets the services of Alex Solis, rider of 1986 El Camino and Preakness winner Snow Chief; and Soul Driver, runner-up in his last two stakes tries, including the California Derby.
Classy cast for Lost in the Fog
Stakes winners Bolita Boyz, Marino’s Wild Cat, Mr. Bowling, and Giant Sandman are expected to run in the $50,000 Lost in the Fog here on Monday. Trainer Mark Glatt said he would enter either stakes winner Ankeny Hill or Follini, third in the California Cup Sprint in his last start. The Lost in the Fog is for 4-year-olds and up going six furlongs.
Exit Stage Left, 3 for 3 in his career, all in stakes, is a possible runner, Hollendorfer said.
