Leading the Charge, Bumble of Love stay hot in Indiana-bred stakes

Leading the Charge wins the 2021 Bucchero Stakes at Indiana Grand
Coady Photography Leading the Charge rallied up the rail to win the Bucchero Stakes, his fourth consecutive victory.

Leading the Charge became a stakes winner Wednesday by winning won his fourth consecutive race in the $100,000 Bucchero at Indiana Grand. The Bucchero shared a card with the $100,000 Peony won by Bumble of Love.

The stakes were for older Indiana-breds at a distance of a mile and a sixteenth on turf. The races were run in the early afternoon hours as forecasted extreme heat led Indiana to start its card at 10 a.m. The same early post will be in place Thursday.

Leading the Charge ($6.60) settled off the pace set by Cash Logistics, who took the field through six furlongs in 1:13.61. Leading the Charge split horses in the stretch and darted up the rail for a length victory over Max Express. It was another head back in third to Cash Logistics.

Leading the Charge covered the distance on firm ground in 1:44.62. Deshawn Parker rode the winner for Team Block and trainer Robert E. Dobbs Jr.

Leading the Charge is a son of Suntracer who has now won 5 of 9 starts for earnings of $157,081. His streak started in an entry-level allowance in November at Indiana Grand. He won two more conditioned allowances this meet before the Bucchero.

Bumble of Love ($5.60) was winning her third straight race and first stakes in the Peony, which was restricted to fillies and mares. She stalked the leaders and went on to a length and a quarter win over Timeless Rose. It was another half-length back in third to Bloody Mary Mornin.

Bumble of Love covered the distance on firm ground in 1:45.33. Marcelino Pedroza was aboard for Andrew Ritter and trainer Brian Michael.

Bumble of Love is a daughter of Hampton Creek who has now won 5 of 10 starts for earnings of $167,352. Her streak started in a conditioned allowance June 23 at Indiana Grand and after another allowance score at the meet she captured the Peony.
