Lazaro Barrera Stakes fails to fill

The $100,000 Lazaro Barrera Stakes for 3-year-olds at 6 1/2 furlongs scheduled for Sunday at Santa Anita failed to draw sufficient entries and was canceled.
The Barrera was intended as the stakes debut for High Connection, the 10-length winner of a maiden special weight race at 6 1/2 furlongs in his debut on March 26. At the time, High Connection was trained by Bob Baffert, who is serving a 90-day suspension for a medication violation found in a post-race test taken from 2021 Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit.

High Connection, along with some other former Baffert-trained runners, is trained by Sean McCarthy.
High Connection starts Sunday in an allowance race for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles, which drew a field of six.
The allowance race field includes Fast Draw Munnings, the winner of the California Cup Derby in January who was recently gelded, and Armagnac, who was fourth behind Kentucky Derby hopefuls Taiba, Messier and Happy Jack in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 9. Armagnac was previously trained by Baffert and is now with trainer Tim Yakteen, who is caring for a small number of former Baffert-trained runners.
