Lawyers mum on NYRA meeting

Matt Hegarty|Aug 05, 2003

Officials of the New York Racing Association met with federal prosecutors from the U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of New York on Tuesday morning to discuss ways NYRA might avoid a criminal indictment, but the outcome of the meeting was unclear.

NYRA's attorney Denis McInerney, who participated in the meeting, said that NYRA would have no comment on the meeting or the discussions that took place. William Muller, the executive assistant to the U.S. attorney, Rosslyn Mauskopf, also declined to comment.

NYRA had sought the meeting to discuss a possible fine in regard to the outcome of criminal investigations over the past three years that have resulted in the convictions of 19 mutuel clerks.
