Lawyer Ron takes Diamond Jo Stakes

Jeff Taylor|Dec 31, 2005

Relaxing nicely under John McKee, Lawyer Ron set all the pace, turned back a bid from runner up Desert Wheat turning for home and drew clear once again through the stretch to capture Saturday?s $100,000 Diamond Jo Stakes at Evangeline Downs. Desert Wheat finished eight and a half-lengths behind the winner and over eleven lengths if front of even money favorite Premier Dance who saw his five race win streak, all in stakes company, come to an end.

Trained by Bob Holthus for James Hines, Jr., Lawyer Ron ($4.60) won for the third time in ten starts and picked up his first stakes victory. The son of Langfuhr covered the one-mile distance over a fast track in 1:39.19 over a fast track and earned $60,000 for his connections to increase his bankroll to over $128,000.
