OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After taking two shots in Grade 1 stakes – and running creditably in both – Law Professor finds some much-appreciated class relief when he heads a field of 12 3-year-olds and up entered in Saturday’s $150,000 Queens County Stakes at Aqueduct. A stakes winner on both turf and dirt, Law Professor ran arguably the best race of his career when he finished second, beaten only 1 1/4 lengths by Life Is Good, in the four-horse Grade 1 Woodward Stakes here on Oct. 1. “We were taking a shot,” trainer Rob Atras said. “There was one horse to beat. We knew it was going to be a small field. We expected him to run well. He did. He really showed up that day. We were all getting down riding him at the quarter pole.” :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! Join DRF Bets. That performance led Atras and the owners, Twin Creeks Racing Stables, to try the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, where Law Professor finished fifth, 7 1/2 lengths behind winner Cody’s Wish. “Maybe a mile is not right for him,” Atras said. “That race, they started out pretty quick and they finished even quicker. He’s not naturally that fast, but he likes to be more forwardly placed for him to run his best races.” Stretching back out to 1 1/8 miles against lesser competition in the Queens County, Law Professor should be able to attain a stalking position behind expected pacesetters Thomas Shelby, Sea Foam, and Ridin With Biden. Law Professor breaks from post 5 under Manny Franco. Ridin With Biden, who was cross-entered in Friday’s $100,000 Robert Manfuso Stakes at Laurel Park, has won three stakes in his last five starts. Trained by Butch Reid, Ridin With Biden came from slightly off the pace to win the Turkey Trot at Parx on Nov. 23. Frankie Pennington is named on Ridin With Biden, who breaks from post 2. Unbridled Bomber has found his best form late in his 3-year-old year, winning two straight allowance races going two turns at Aqueduct. Trainer Jim Ryerson said the combination of stretching out around two turns, the removal of blinkers, and the horse developing physically led to those allowance wins. “He always had ability but he never was able to put it together,” Ryerson said. Also in this field are Forewarned, who won the 2021 Queens County at odds of 42-1; Bourbonic, who won the 2021 Wood Memorial here at odds of 72-1; and Double Crown, the 42-1 upset winner of the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap here in October. Naval Aviator, Southern District, and Shooger Ray Too complete the field. The Queens County goes as race 8 on a nine-race card that begins at 12:20 p.m. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
