Lavender Disaster, a bit of an underachiever thus far on turf, will make a surface switch to dirt in Sunday’s featured second-level allowance for filly and mares at seven furlongs at Aqueduct. A daughter of Into Mischief, Lavender Disaster gave trainer Chad Brown the feel of a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf horse a year ago after she won at first asking at Saratoga. Her second start was a toss-out, as she got carried out badly at the quarter pole of the Grade 2 Miss Grillo and could never recover, finishing last. Lavender Disaster won her 3-year-old debut in a first-level allowance at Aqueduct in May before finishing third in the Wild Applause Stakes and fourth in the Grade 3 Lake George, both at Saratoga. Over the last three years, Brown is 17 for 70 with a $1.42 ROI with horses going turf to dirt, according to DRF Formulator. One success was Weigh the Risks, who, after moving from turf to dirt last fall, won three of four starts, including an allowance race at Saratoga in July, for which she earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure. Lavender Disaster is out of the Grade 3 turf stakes-winning mare Cafe Americano. Roswell, who defeated the Brown-trained Senza Parole in a first-level allowance at Saratoga on Aug. 23, could be the one to beat in this field. Golden Degree, who goes first off the Bill Morey claim, and Maggy’s Palace, who was third in this condition first time trying it last month at Saratoga, also loom. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
