Laurel: There's no catching Svea Dahl

Svea Dahl has turned out to be an exceptional acquisition for owner Roddy Valente and trainer Bruce Levine.

Claimed for $62,500 in June, Svea Dahl has won 4 of 6 starts for her new connections, including the $50,000 Carousel Stakes at Laurel Park. Svea Dahl ($3), ridden by Ramon Dominguez, set a controlled pace and led wire to wire in the 1 1/16-mile Carousel for fillies and mares.

A 6-year-old mare, Svea Dahl also won the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm at Aqueduct on Nov. 3. She will be pointed to the filly and mare division of the Sunshine Millions on Jan. 25 at Santa Anita.

"I claimed her for $62,500 and the Sunshine Millions race was in the back of my mind," said Valente. "I didn't realize it would materialize this fast. She is very talented and with two stakes wins to her credit her value as a broodmare prospect has increased."
