Laurel: P Day gets winning ride

Ryan Folgelsonger, an Eclipse Award nominee for top apprentice jockey, gave one of the best rides of his young career on P Day, waiting for room in upper stretch and then accelerating at just the right moment to win the $75,000 Native Dancer.

P Day and Full Brush were fourth and fifth and behind horses at the top of the stretch when both shot toward an opening between front-runners Paynes Bay and Hay Getoutofmyway. Both P Day and Full Brush got through, and they battled nostril to nostril to the wire. P Day inched in front a few yards from the finish to win by a head.

It was only a head back to Hay Getoutofmyway in third and another neck back to Pickupspeed in fourth. P Day ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.08 over a fast track and paid $7.60.
