Laurel cancels remainder of Friday card due to wind
Laurel Park canceled its Friday card after race 3 due to windy conditions.
At the time of the cancellation, the temperature was 28 degrees with a real-feel temperature of 11 degrees, according to AccuWeather. But cold was not the reason for the cancellation, according to Sal Sinatra, president of the Maryland Jockey Club.
"If there was no wind we would have kept running," he said. "We've had a few wind gusts of more than 40 miles per hour. It's just too dangerous."
Simulcast wagering at Laurel continued as scheduled. Laurel will resume racing Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. first post.
A 5-All consolation of $4.40 was paid out on the $2 daily double to everyone who had race 3 winner Reciprocity ($4).
Race 4 was treated as "all winners" for the $1 pick three that began on race 2. Tickets with Top Prospect (No. 1, $5.60), Reciprocity and all runners in race 4 received $11.
The 50-cent pick five that began on race 1 paid $39.90 to tickets with Lobkowicz Palace (No. 6, $11.80), Top Prospect, Reciprocity and all runners in races 4 and 5.
All wagers on the 50-cent pick four, which began in race 2, were refunded, as were all bets that would have begun on race 4.
