Amanda Hodges Weir/Hodges Photography Laughingsaintssong, winner of the Louisiana Champions Day Sprint last out, has a three-race win streak dating to July.

Laughingsaintssong has reason to move forward on Saturday night, when he attempts to win his fourth consecutive race in the $65,000 Sam’s Town at Delta Downs.

The Sam’s Town, which will be run over five furlongs, is for 4-year-olds and up. The field of eight includes stakes winners Eurobond, Win Lion Win, and Wonder Run.

Laughingsaintssong has won stakes in his last two starts, his most recent the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Sprint on Dec. 14 at Fair Grounds. He won by a length and covered six furlongs in a sharp 1:10 in his first start since August.

“We had a layoff for about four months – couldn’t find any spots for him, none of the races would go,” said Allen Landry, who trains Laughingsaintssong. “We finally got lucky, got to run in there.

“He came out of it good. Never backed off training. Never looked back.”

Laughingsaintssong began his streak July 18 in an allowance over 5 1/2 furlongs at Evangeline Downs. He proceeded to win the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Sprint on Aug. 3 at Louisiana Downs before his Champions Day win in New Orleans. Laughingsaintssong will be making his first start of the meet at Delta, and has worked regularly at the track this winter.

“He’s won at Delta before – won at Delta first time out there,” Landry said.

Colby Hernandez has the mount from post 5.

“I think there’s a lot of speed in the race,” Landry said. “It could set up good for him. He’ll probably lay right off them.

“Colby fits him perfectly. He rode him the last three times, won three times in a row.”

Laughingsaintssong is a winner of 9 of 22 starts and an earner of $299,910.

“He runs hard,” said Landry.

Laughingsaintssong races for Rodney J. Verret.

Landry also trains entrant Elkhorn Poet, who is coming off a third-place finish in a Delta Downs allowance on Nov. 30.

“He’s live in there,” Landry said.

Diego Saenz has the mount from post 8.

“He’s got a lot of speed,” said Landry.

Wonder Run won the allowance over Elkhorn Poet. It was his fourth win at Delta, which includes last year’s running of the $100,000 Louisiana Premier Night Sprint.

Paddock Pick moves into stakes company while looking for his fourth straight win in a streak that started Oct. 8 at Delta. Gerard Melancon has the mount for trainer Karl Broberg.
