Late Night Pow Wow tuning up for Barbara Fritchie

Late Night Pow Wow has not had a recorded workout since her easy victory in the Jan. 12 What a Summer Stakes at Laurel Park, but she is doing well and on track to make the Grade 3, $250,000 Barbara Fritchie Stakes on Feb. 16, according to trainer Javier Contreras.
Late Night Pow Wow, who is stabled at Charles Town, has won eight straight races since last June and is 10 for 11 in her career, with victories in the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks and the Willa On the Move Stakes at Laurel.
Just as he did before the Willa on the Move and What a Summer, Contreras plans to van Late Night Pow Wow to Laurel this weekend for a workout.
“I gave her an easy, easy work here at Charles Town last weekend going six furlongs,” Contreras said. “It wasn’t even worth putting on the workout tab but it was useful. This is her serious work this weekend.”
Despite the recent polar vortex freeze in the Mid-Atlantic, Contreras said Late Night Pow Wow’s training has not been impacted.
“I’m very pleased with her,” he said.
Contreras said he also will enter What a Summer runner-up Devine Mischief in the Fritchie. Both fillies are owned by the Breeze Easy LLC of Mike Hall and Sam Ross.
“We’re going to enter them both and then look at the race,” Contreras said regarding Devine Mischief’s starting status.
Late Night Pow Wow will be among the favorites in the Fritchie along with last year’s winner Ms Locust Point, Interborough winner Dawn the Destroyer, and Grade 1 La Brea winner Spiced Perfection, who is expected to ship in from California.
