Late-developing Marceline romps in one-mile maiden race.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Marceline looks like a 3-year-old filly with a bright future based on both her pedigree and a dominant maiden special weight win earlier this month at Lone Star Park.
The daughter of Into Mischief rolled by 7 1/2 lengths in her two-turn debut July 2, and galloped out strongly following the race. She is out of the Grade 2-winning mare Authenticity, making her a half-sister to $4 million earner Charlatan.
“We’re obviously very proud of her,” said trainer Steve Asmussen. “She’s another unbelievably bred Stonestreet filly that with time is coming into her own.”
Marceline, a May foal, was making the second start of her career, following a third-place finish in a maiden special weight sprint in May at Lone Star.
“We’ll try to use her conditions and continue to her let develop,” Asmussen said. “She’s a big, tall, leggy filly that we expect to get better with time.”
Stewart Elliott has ridden Marceline in both of her starts. He is the current leading rider at Lone Star with 54 wins. Ry Eikleberry ranks second with 35.

Lucarelli hits milestone
Trainer Frank Lucarelli reached a milestone of 2,000 career Thoroughbred wins in North America on Sunday, when River Kat won the fourth race at Lone Star.
The barn went to work on its next 1,000 one race later, when Sargeant Kline won the fifth. Both horses were ridden by Jansen Melancon, who overall won four races Sunday.
Lucarelli is the all-time winningest trainer at Emerald Downs. A few years ago, he brought a division of horses to the Southwest.
Lucarelli through Monday had won 2,002 races from 13,810 starts, according to Daily Racing Form statistics. Those starters have earned more than $26 million and include Stormy Lucy, winner of the Grade 2 Santa Ana in 2014 at Santa Anita and Gallant Son, winner of the Grade 3 Inglewood Handicap in 2010 at Hollywood Park.
Turf festival at Lone Star
Lone Star Park will put on four turf stakes worth a total of $750,000 on Saturday, led by the $300,000 Texas Turf Classic.
The 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds and up drew eight led by Grade 2 winner Field Pass and Grade 3 winner Cellist. Field Pass drew the rail and trainer Mike Maker has named Javier Castellano to ride the horse, who can go over $1 million in career earnings Saturday.
Lone Star puts on a second card of stakes Sunday. The Stars of Texas program includes five restricted stakes worth a total of $525,000. There are two $150,000 divisions of the Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity.
* There have been 128 claims for $1.4 million in transactions between stables so far this meet, according to statistics from Lone Star. The season runs through July 24.
