Lasix gets OK for Oaklawn Mile and Hot Springs Stakes
Horses entered in the two undercard stakes at Arkansas Derby Day at Oaklawn will be permitted to race on Lasix, multiple officials at the track said Saturday morning.
The Oaklawn Mile and Hot Springs Stakes entries were taken Monday, when a new Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority medication policy received federal approval. As part of that, horses are not permitted to race on Lasix in stakes. However, court action on Friday sent the rules of racing back to the states and, as such, Lasix will be permitted in non-Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks points races at Oaklawn, officials said.
There are two scratches from Saturday's Hot Springs Stakes: Caramel Road and Frosted Departure. The track is fast on a sunny day in the 60s.
