Langs Day ($32.80) makes Gold Cup first stakes win

Langs Day became a stakes winner Saturday when he closed down the center of the track for a 3 1/4-length victory over Underpressure in the $100,000 Gold Cup at Delta Downs.
It was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third to Grand Luwegee.
The Gold Cup was a seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana.
No Parole, the 1-2 favorite, broke a step slow and dueled through quick fractions before backing out of the two-turn race after a half-mile.
Langs Day ($32.80) trailed the field through fractions of 22.79 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.32 for the half-mile, then unleashed a big run through the stretch. He covered the distance on a fast track in 1:26.94.
Ty Kennedy was aboard the winner for trainer Lee Thomas.
Langs Day is a son of New Year’s Day who races for Keith Plaisance. The horse’s dam, Langsyne, has produced another stakes winner in Special Blessing.
Langs Day has now won 5 of 15 starts. The first-place check of $60,000 on Saturday brings his career earnings mark to $177,840.
