Even getting away from Saratoga didn’t help Corey Lanerie find the winner’s circle. Lanerie went winless in 13 mounts last weekend – 12 at Ellis Park and one at Monmouth Park – perpetuating what has been a mostly frustrating summer for a jockey accustomed to winning with far more frequency. Lanerie left Churchill in late June with his eighth riding title from the last nine meets at the Louisville track. He has won eight races since then – all but one of them stakes – although he went 0 for 57 at Saratoga before deciding to return home to Kentucky before the meet ended. His last winner came Aug. 2 aboard Bradester in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup, a winless streak now up to 48 races. Meanwhile, Julien Leparoux will be active Saturday at Kentucky Downs before returning Sunday for the last two days at Saratoga. Leparoux, a perennial top rider at the major Kentucky tracks, also has struggled through a subpar Saratoga meet with a 5-for-101 record through Monday.
