Chris Landeros rode three of the six stakes winners on Saturday’s biggest card of the Turfway meet.
Landeros’s day was highlighted by a pair of talented fillies from the Brad Cox barn, as Botanical won the $300,000 Bourbonette Oaks and Idiomatic won the $250,000 Latonia. Botanical is streaking toward the Kentucky Oaks off four straight wins at Turfway, with Landeros aboard for all of them.
“She’s shown so much talent this meet at Turfway,” Landeros said.
Idiomatic has won three straight on the Tapeta, all with Landeros in the irons. The Latonia was her stakes debut.
“She’s a big filly and covers a lot of ground with her stride,” Landeros said. “She was very comfortable and I think could run all day. She’s won at a mile and a quarter and one mile at this meet. It shows how versatile she is.”
Landeros also rode Rarified Flair to win the $250,000 Rushaway for trainer Ken McPeek.
Apprentice Rodriguez leads standings
Apprentice jockey Walter Rodriguez comes into the final three days of this Turfway meet with the lead in the rider standings.
Rodriguez leads Gerardo Corrales 46 to 40 at Turfway’s winter-spring meet, which began Jan. 1. Corrales was the leader at the track’s Holiday meet, which ran from late November through December. Both riders are represented by Cliff Collier.
“It’s been an absolute blessing to have this much success this winter,” said Rodriguez, who rode his first winner last June at Laurel. “It’s been a lot of hard work to get here, but I’m really blessed and looking forward to riding at Keeneland and Churchill after we’re done here.”
In the trainer standings, Wesley Ward leads with 21 winners to 14 each for Brad Cox and Paulo Lobo.
Turfway closes out its meet with evening cards this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday before the Kentucky circuit shifts to Keeneland, with the meet beginning April 7. The feature Saturday at Turfway is the $125,000 Serena’s Song for sophomore filly sprinters.
There are two small carryovers into the final days of racing, with $3,628 in the Pick 6 and $2,189 in the Super High 5.
