Landed made a successful 4-year-old debut Sunday at Aqueduct, making the lead soon after the start under Frankie Pennington then holding longshot Sweet Brown Sugar at bay to win the $125,000 Broadway Stakes for New York-bred fillies and mares by one length.  It was 2 1/4 lengths back to Speightful Lily, who was 3 1/2 lengths clear of Caldwell Luvs Gold. Tough Street finished fifth followed by the surprising favorite My Magic Wand. The original field of 11 was scratched down to six with the defections of Bon Adieu, Catchphrase, Bernietakescharge, Cara’s Time, and Snappin Buttons.  Landed, a daughter of Omaha Beach owned by the Lael Stables of Roy and Gretchen Jackson and trained by Wesley Ward, won for the fifth time from eight career starts. At 3, she won the Bouwerie and Fleet Indian, both New York-bred stakes at Saratoga. She hadn’t run since finishing third in an open allowance at Keeneland last Oct. 23.  :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! She kind of bounces out of there and if we can get there [to the front], then she just keeps running.”  Breaking from the inside post, Landed was shoved to the lead by Pennington coming out of the chute and she set fractions of 23.17 seconds for the quarter and 46.59 for the half-mile while being stalked by Speightful Lily. Sweet Brown Sugar, surprisingly the 10-1 longest shot on the board, was getting an inside trip in fourth under Lane Luzzi.  Turning for home, as Landed spurted clear from Speightful Lily, Sweet Brown Sugar got off the rail and tried to make a run at Landed, but the latter was too strong.  Landed covered the seven furlongs in 1:24.78 and returned $7.80 as the second choice.  “She broke sharp,” Pennington said. “She was wanting to go, so I went ahead and let her go. It was just a waiting game with her. She ran very big off the layoff.”  Ward said he would like to have Landed make her next start at Keeneland in April before likely returning to New York for the spring and summer.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
