Scott Lake became the sixth trainer in history to win 5,000 races when Communicator went wire to wire to win the first race at Laurel Park on Wednesday. Lake, 45, sent out his first winner in 1987. He joins Dale Baird, Jack Van Berg, King Leatherbury, Jerry Hollendorfer, and Steve Asmussen in the 5,000-win club. Lake , who races primarily at the Mid-Atlantic tracks in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia, has led the nation in wins four times (2006, 2003, 2001, and 2000), with his best season coming in 2006 when he sent out 528 winners.
