Lake Avenue out of Distaff; Mott will instead start Paris Lights

Paris Lights (No. 6) wins the 2020 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga Race Course

Barbara D. Livingston Paris Lights (No. 6) has not raced since winning the Coaching Club American Oaks last July.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Bill Mott will be making a lineup change for next Friday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Distaff Handicap. Lake Avenue is out. Paris Lights is in.

Mott said Lake Avenue, who won the Heavenly Prize Stakes here March 6, has developed a foot bruise and will be forced to miss the Distaff.

Paris Lights will be making her first start since she won the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga last July.

Subsequent to the CCA Oaks, Paris Lights suffered a splint bone injury in a hind leg and was sidelined for the remainder of 2020.

“She’s doing great,” Mott said. “We’re coming back in a graded stakes, she’s got to be doing good.”

Entries for the Distaff will be taken Sunday. Others expected include Honor Way, Kansas Kis, Portal Creek, and possibly Lady Kate.
