Lady Rosberg raced to a mild upset Sunday at Emerald Downs in the $50,000 Boeing Handicap for fillies and mares. A three-time stakes winner at Turf Paradise this past winter, Lady Rosberg ran one mile in 1:35.92 and paid $10.60 as the second choice in a field of eight. Trainer Tom Wenzel saddled Lady Rosberg, but most of the prerace conversation centered on Wenzel's other entrant, Kikisoblu, who went postward at 4-5 and faded to finish third after a troubled trip. Lady Rosberg prompted the pace set by longshot Lady of the Nile, took command at the top of the lane, and kicked clear to win by 5 1/2 lengths. Sarahline, in from Golden Gate for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, was second, a length ahead of Kikisoblu, who moved up on the turn but couldn't match strides with her stablemate through the lane. Wenzel now has accounted for win in each of Emerald's three stakes for fillies and mares. Kikisoblu won the first two events with ease, followed by Lady Rosberg's victory Sunday. The Wenzel pair are likely to command much of the betting in the $65,000 Emerald Distaff at 1 1/8 miles on Aug. 16. Alli Leigh finished fourth, followed by Lady of the Nile, Finding More, English Lace, and Our Little Hen. Lady Rosberg, who was ridden by Gallyn Mitchell for owner Karl Krieg of Oak Harbor, Wash., earned $27,500, increasing her career bankroll to $134,272 from 14 starts.
