Lady Railrider will be bred to Lucky Pulpit

Lady Railrider, a five-time stakes winner who earned $603,041, has been retired and will be bred to Lucky Pulpit, according to a statement released last week by Harris Farms of Coalinga, Calif.

Lady Railrider raced for breeders Larry and Marianne Williams, who also own Lucky Pulpit, the leading freshman stallion in California in 2010.

A 7-year-old mare, Lady Railrider finished fifth in an allowance race at Golden Gate Fields last month in her final start. She ended her career with 9 wins in 35 starts. Trained for most of her career by Steve Specht, Lady Railrider won stakes in Idaho and throughout California.

Her most prominent win was the California Cup Matron at Santa Anita in 2009. She also won consecutive runnings of the Pacific Heights Stakes at Golden Gate Fields in 2008 and 2009, finished second in four stakes and third in five others.

Lucky Pulpit is the sire of Rousing Sermon, the winner of the 2011 California Cup Juvenile. He is a candidate for the $300,000 San Felipe Stakes over 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on March 10. The Grade 2 San Felipe is a key prep for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on April 7.
