Lady Paname likely to get freshening

ELMONT, N.Y. - Lady Paname, the half-length winner of Saturday’s Grade 2 Long Island Stakes, will likely get a freshening and be aimed at a 5-year-old campaign in 2019, trainer Chad Brown said Sunday morning.
Lady Paname, who was making just her second start of the year, rallied from midpack under Irad Ortiz Jr. to beat Tricky Escape in the Long Island. She ran 1 3/8 miles in 2:16.15 and earned an 88 Beyer Speed Figure for the performance.
“She got a great trip and she ran terrific, she showed a nice kick, I’m very proud of her,” said Brown, who said he wanted to talk to the owners before committing to giving the filly a break.
Lady Paname was off for more than a year due to some physical issues that cropped up last spring.
Mott ponders next move with Blamed
Blamed came out of her victory in Friday’s Grade 3 Comely Stakes with a bruised foot, but trainer Bill Mott didn’t think it would prevent her from running again this year if he chooses to do that.
“I don’t think it’s anything serious,” Mott said. “She bruised the bulb of the heel on her foot. She seems better already today.”
Mott said Blamed would soon head to his Payson Park stable in South Florida while he considers whether to run her in the Grade 1 La Brea, a seven-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies, at Santa Anita on Dec. 26 or simply wait until next year to run her again.
Mott said the timing of the La Brea “would probably be okay, but we’ll just see, I’m not pushing to do that. If she was doing great, then maybe we’d think about it. Transportation is always a bit of a problem around Christmas time.”
Blamed, who won for the sixth time in eight career starts, earned an 89 Beyer Speed Figure for her Comely victory. She was ridden to victory by Julien Leparoux.
“I thought she did well and i don’t think she was all-out,” Mott said. “I think he let her idle down a little bit.”
White Flag may run in Tropical Turf
White Flag, who upset stablemate Disco Partner in Saturday’s $125,000 Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship, will be considered for the $100,000 Tropical Turf Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 12, trainer Christophe Clement said Sunday morning.
Disco Partner will get a break and point to a 7-year-old campaign.
The Tropical Turf is run at one mile. White Flag tried that distance in the City of Hope Mile at Santa Anita in October and finished fifth. He came out of that race with a quarter crack.
White Flag, who earned a 97 Beyer Speed Figure for his Aqueduct Turf Sprint Championship victory, and Disco Partner were both to ship to South Florida, where they will winter at Clement’s Payson Park base.
