Lady Orchid leads Bravo-trained 1-2 in More Than Even Stakes

Lady Orchid overtook stablemate Spring Steen in the stretch to win the $55,000 More Than Even Stakes on Monday at Will Rogers Downs – and lead an exacta trained by Francisco Bravo.
The More Than Even was a 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares bred in Oklahoma.
Lady Orchid ($7.60) won by 2 3/4 lengths over Spring Steen. It was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third to She’s Shiney.
Lady Orchid settled about five lengths off the pace as Spring Steen set posted fractions of 23.41 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.44 for the half-mile, and 1:12.37 for six furlongs while pushed along by Inagoodway.

Lady Orchid advanced on the final turn, swept into the stretch five wide, and overtook her stablemate in the race’s final sixteenth of a mile. The final time for the More Than Even was announced as a hand-timed 1:43.87.
The track was fast.
Jockey Floyd Wethey Jr. was aboard Lady Orchid for her breeder and owner, Lori Bravo.
Lady Orchid was winning the third stakes race of her young career, behind a division of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes and the Useeit last year at Remington Park. She is a 4-year-old daughter of Oratory and the stakes-winning mare Burst of Life.
Lady Orchid has now won 5 of 8 starts and has earnings of $165,454.
