Lady Countdown prevails as favorite

Lady Countdown took command early and then fended off all challengers en route to a 1 1/4-length victory in the $30,000 Chantilly at Assiniboia Downs on Friday night.

Invading from Canterbury Park for owner-trainer Charlie Smith, Lady Countdown was ridden by Rohan Singh and returned $4.40 as the favorite after completing the six furlongs in 1:13.60.

Jakes Lady Luck rallied nicely to finish second, with Adventcia closing for third. Inspeightofsuccess was fifth as the second choice in the field of eight 3-year-old fillies.

Lady Countdown, bred in Louisiana, captured the six-furlong Debutante in her first visit to Winnipeg last spring. The Chantilly was her fourth win from 11 starts and boosted her earnings to $69,908.
