Lady Aurelia breezes for Prix Morny

Lady Aurelia was sent through her second official workout since her breathtaking performance at Royal Ascot, breezing a half-mile in company Wednesday over the turf course at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.
With trainer Wesley Ward watching, Lady Aurelia was clocked in 48.80 seconds. She worked outside of stablemate Red Lodge, finishing on even terms before galloping out five furlongs in 1:03. The dogs were well out onto the firm course, and Julio Garcia was aboard Lady Aurelia, who wore blinkers and spotted her workmate about three lengths.
“Flying machine,” Ward said by text afterward.
Lady Aurelia, a 2-year-old filly by the late Scat Daddy, won the Group 2 Queen Mary on June 15 by seven lengths over five furlongs on a soft Ascot course in her second start. Her first race resulted in a track record for 4 1/2 furlongs on the Keeneland dirt in April.
Ward has confirmed the Prix Morny, a race open to 2-year-olds of both sexes, at Deauville in France on Aug. 21 as the next start for Lady Aurelia. Frankie Dettori, who rode Lady Aurelia at Royal Ascot, will have the mount back.
Ward said Lady Aurelia will be flown directly from Chicago O’Hare to Paris on Aug. 13. After the Prix Morny, Ward said he is thinking about keeping Lady Aurelia in Europe to run at Newmarket and then bringing her home for the Nov. 4-5 Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita. Ward said he will consider both the Juvenile Fillies and Juvenile Fillies Turf for her.
Lady Aurelia was bred by the Stonestreet Stables of Barbara Banke. The bay filly is owned by Stonestreet, George Bolton, and Peter Leidel.
