Lady Alida springs upset in Treasure Coast

Lady Alida paid $38 for her front-running victory over Una Luna in the $75,000 Treasure Coast for fillies and mares at Gulfstream Park Saturday. With other longshots Birdie Gold and Money Factor finishing third and fourth the 9-1-5-3 superfecta paid $9,799 for $1.
Breaking sharply from post 9 in the one-mile race on turf, she held a 1 1/2-length advantage over Sean’s Idea at the halfway point, opened up a clear lead while posting a six-furlong time of 1:13.67, and never looked back while holding off Una Luna to win by a half-length. Una Luna stalked the pace before making her move from along the rail. Birdie Gold rallied late to finish a non-threatening third.
Lady Alida set interior fractions of 24.35 and 48.91 seconds prior to posting a final time of 1:39.30.
Despite a heavy rain shower, the turf was rated firm. Shortly following the Treasure Coast, the last race on the card was moved off the turf.
Lady Alida is trained by Alfredo Lichoa and was bred in Kentucky by her owner, SJT Racing Stable.
It was the first stakes win for the 4-year-old daughter of Street Boss who could have been claimed out of a losing effort in an $8,000 non-winners of two lifetime at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 23.
