Ladies Handicap likely next for Wonder Gal

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Wonder Gal, a well-beaten third in the Grade 3 Comely on Nov. 28, likely will make her next start in the $100,000 Ladies Handicap here on Jan. 10, trainer Leah Gyarmati said Wednesday.
Wonder Gal, the winner of the Empire Distaff two starts back, finished 7 1/2 lengths behind Forever Unbridled and Carrumba, who were noses apart in the Comely.
“I felt like she was really boxed in there,” Gyarmati said. “By the time we got going, they were gone. She’s so big, she can’t get herself going quickly like that. If she can stay out of trouble and stay in the clear, she’ll be all right.”
The Ladies this year has been shortened to a mile and 70 yards from past runnings at 1 1/8 miles.
“I don’t think it matters to her,” Gyarmati said.
On Tuesday, Wonder Gal breezed a half-mile in 49 seconds over the Belmont training track.
