PHOENIX – Turf Paradise cards two stakes Monday, the $60,000 Luke Kruytbosch and $60,000 City of Phoenix, and they don’t come much tougher. The one-mile Kruytbosch, named for the one-time track announcer who passed away in 2008, drew a field of 10 and foes as race 8 on the nine-race card. The City of Phoenix, also at a mile but for fillies and mares, 4 years old and up, lured seven and goes as race 5. Both stakes were originally scheduled for Saturday's card, but were rescheduled to Monday when that program was canceled. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! After a second and a win on turf at Canterbury Downs in the summer, the 7-year-old gelded son of Majesticperfection was freshened. He returned to be second in the Hank Mills Sr. here Nov. 6 and then easily won an allowance sprint here Dec. 13. A couple sizzling recent works say he holds his edge. He figures in for a fight, however. Ax Man comes off a couple dull turf tries and may appreciate the return to dirt as he’s done his best work on such footing. He’s also won all three tries at this mile trip. Unmachable was well regarded enough to get a shot at the Longacres Mile at Emerald Downs Aug. 14. He found those waters too deep, finishing ninth, but was freshened and resurfaced here Jan. 10 to be second in a strong allowance sprint. Convention, Tartini, and Zestful filled out the trifecta in close proximity to one another in a good allowance race at this trip here Jan. 3. Tony’s Tapit has won 12 of 26 and done some of his best work here. He comes off a solid third in a sprint stakes here Dec. 21, though that won’t make those who made him the 7-10 favorite feel any better. Race Home and Coastal Kid just ran one-two in a fast allowance sprint here Dec. 21. City of Phoenix La Castiglione, owned by Jeff Jacobs and trained by Juan Gutierrez, won the Glendale at a mile on turf here Nov. 26 but the 5-year-old daughter of Uncle Limo is just as good on dirt. She’s won six of her last eight. Dance Shoes has won more than half her starts (13 for 25), was a multiple route stakes winner at Century Mile, and comes into this off a good second in an allowance sprint here Jan. 12. Gemstone Gal has been freshened since running second in an allowance sprint at Zia Park Oct. 11 and is a stakes winner on this track at this trip. Tiz a Macho Girl and Miss Hard Knocks ran first and second in the Belle of the Ball here Jan. 9, a race run under these same conditions. Blazingbellablu comes off a couple solid turf outings including a second to La Castiglione in the Glendale on turf and is likely better on dirt. She won this race in 2021. *Ramon Vazquez, eighth in the Santa Anita jockey standings, will be in town for six mounts, including the two stakes (Tiz a Macho Girl in the City of Phoenix, Zestful in the Kruytbosch). :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
