Krone gives birth to girl

Steve Andersen|Sep 28, 2005

Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone became a mother on Tuesday.

Krone, 42, gave birth to Lorelei Judith Krone at 5:33 p.m. on Tuesday at a San Diego-area hospital. Lorelei Krone weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20 1/4 inches.

Mother and daughter remained in the hospital on Wednesday and were doing fine, according to Jay Hovdey, Krone's husband and Daily Racing Form's executive columnist.

Krone is the only female rider in racing's Hall of Fame. A winner of 3,704 races, Krone retired in 2004. She is best known for winning the 1993 Belmont Stakes on Colonial Affair and the 2003 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies on Halfbridled.
