Kristi's Copilot points to Santa Anita Juvenile

ARCADIA, Calif. – Move over, California Chrome. There is another Lucky Pulpit colt in trainer Art Sherman’s stable attracting attention.
Kristi’s Copilot, a 2-year-old California-bred owned by breeder David LaCroix, is being pointed for the $125,000 Santa Anita Juvenile at 5 1/2 furlongs on June 22 after winning his debut on May 16.
Kristi’s Copilot won a maiden race at 4 1/2 furlongs in 51.84 seconds under Aaron Gryder, leaving Sherman impressed with the effort.
“I think he’s got a nice future,” Sherman said on Friday morning at Los Alamitos. “Aaron told me that he was pretty green and that he broke okay. He’s got some run to him.”
Kristi’s Copilot is out of Aleyna’s at Brown, who finished third in her only start, at Hollywood Park in 2010. Kristi’s Copilot is her first foal.
Sherman planned to spend the weekend overseeing his stable at Los Alamitos before traveling to New York for the buildup to California Chrome’s bid for the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes next Saturday.
Miss Serendipity getting a break
Miss Serendipity, the winner of the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes last Monday, may not race again until August, trainer Ron McAnally said on Friday.
Miss Serendipity, a 6-year-old Argentine-bred mare, won the $301,000 Gamely at 1 1/8 miles on turf by a nose over Emollient for her first stakes win in this country. Owned by Matias Cavalieri, Miss Serendipity was a Group 1 winner in Argentina in 2013.
McAnally said that turf races such as the $250,000 John Mabee Stakes at 1 1/8 miles at Del Mar on Aug. 10, or the $750,000 Beverly D. Stakes at 1 3/16 miles at Arlington Park on Aug. 16, are possibilities.
“I’m not sure what we’ll do,” McAnally said.
McAnally said Miss Serendipity has not been nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program, but that a supplemental nomination was a possibility this year. The BC Filly and Mare Turf will be run over the same turf course as the Gamely on Oct. 31.
