Komorebino Omoide gets blinkers back on for Bosselman Pump and Pantry/Gus Fonner

Komorebino Omoide will be making a key equipment change Saturday when he starts as the probable favorite in the $75,000 Bosseman Pump and Pantry/Gus Fonner Stakes at Fonner Park.

The 1 1/16-mile race, which will be run around three turns, is the highlight of the meet. It will be supported by the $30,000 Elite Sprint Cup that drew multiple stakes winner General Shipman and the $25,000 Fonner Park Special. First post for the 10-race card is 1:30 p.m. Central.

Komorebino Omoide is part of a field of nine that includes the mare Tennessee Moon, who ranked as the winningest horse in North America in 2024. Komorebino Omoide is making his first start at Fonner after a winter at Fair Grounds in which he ran second to eventual Dubai World Cup winner Hit Show in the Grade 3 Louisiana in January.

In his most recent out, Komorebino Omoide was a troubled fifth in the Grade 2 New Orleans Classic on March 22.

“The race was lost at the start,” said Robertino Diodoro, who trains Komorebino Omoide for Perry Martin. “As soon they sprung the gate he took a step back, lunged out of the gate. It was the first time he didn’t have blinkers on, so the blinkers will be definitely going back on him. He didn’t run that bad of a race, but it’s got to be thrown completely out. It was literally lost at the break.”

Komorebino Omoide will be racing on a smaller oval for the race Saturday, but that’s not new for him, said Diodoro.

“The one good thing is he won the Delta Mile, which is [run on] a bull ring,” he said. “So, he is a big horse, but he did run quite well at Delta. It shouldn’t be a problem.”

Tennessee Moon went 13 for 18 last year to lead her peers in wins in North America. She will be looking for her third consecutive stakes wins at Fonner meet when she breaks from post 4. Tennessee Moon is 2 for 4 in 2025.
