Knightsbridge to try two turns in Monmouth Cup before Forego

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The main summer target for Knightsbridge is the Grade 1 Forego, a seven-furlong race at Saratoga on Aug. 29. He may take an unorthodox path to get there.
Knightsbridge will try two turns for the first time in the Grade 2, $500,000 Monmouth Cup, a 1 1/8-mile race on the July 18 Haskell undercard, trainer Bill Mott said.
Knightsbridge is 6 for 10 in his career and has made all his starts in one-turn races. During the winter in Florida, Knightsbridge won a trio of Grade 3 stakes – the Fred Hooper, Mr. Prospector, and Gulfstream Park Mile. After a disappointing effort in the Grade 1 Churchill Downs, Knightsbridge finished second to Nysos in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap.
“There’s no place to run in the type of races he’s been running in if he’s ready to run in mid-July. Mott said. “If we’re ever going to do it [two turns], timing-wise this is the chance to try it.”
