SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. − Knightsbridge, who earned a 122 Beyer Speed Figure in winning the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup on July 18, will be nominated to the Grade 1, $1 million Pacific Classic on Aug. 22, trainer Bill Mott said.
Asked if he was giving the race serious consideration, Mott said, “we’d have to be if we’re nominating.”
If Knightsbridge does go in the Pacific Classic he would have a rematch with Nysos, who defeated him by four lengths in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap on June 6. It would be the first time both horses tried 1 1/4 miles.
“Both horses are very fast,” Mott said.
Flavien Prat rode Knightsbridge in the Monmouth Cup, but he is committed to ride Nysos. Junior Alvarado would ride Knightsbridge in the Pacific Classic, Mott said.
