Knicks Go targets Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star

Knicks Go breezed a half-mile in 48.20 seconds Friday morning at Churchill Downs, his third work since returning to the U.S. following a fourth-place finish in the $20 million Saudi Cup on Feb. 20.
Trainer Brad Cox said he is pointing Knicks Go to the Grade 3, $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile at Lone Star Park on May 31.
“It’s a two-turn mile,” Cox said. “It makes sense as far as bringing him back.”

Before his fourth-place in the Saudi Cup, Knicks Go had strung together an impressive four-race winning streak that included victories in last fall’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland and the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational at Gulfstream Park.
Cox said he’s liked what he’s seen from Knicks Go since he began training following about a two-week break upon returning from Saudi Arabia, which included a week of quarantine in Chicago.
“He looks fantastic, he really gained a lot of weight during this time off,” Cox said. “He’s definitely going the right way.”
Cox also said he is looking at the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park on June 5 for Monomoy Girl’s next start.
