Klimt staying home for Shared Belief Stakes

DEL MAR, Calif. – Klimt, second in the Grade 3 Los Alamitos Derby on July 15, will remain in Southern California rather than heading to Saratoga for his next start.

Trainer Art Sherman said on Wednesday that Klimt will be pointed for the $100,000 Shared Belief Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on Aug. 26 at Del Mar. Sherman last week had considered sending Klimt to Saratoga for the Grade 1 Allen Jerkens Memorial at seven furlongs on the same day.
“I think this will be better for him,” Sherman said.
Owned by Kaleem Shah, Klimt has won 3 of 7 starts and earned $456,960. Last year, Klimt won the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity when trained by Bob Baffert. Klimt joined Sherman’s stable in January after Shah and Baffert split.
