Kiss My Hocks broke on top and scored a half-length win over favorite Sam Crow in the Grade 1, $1,067,907 Rainbow Quarter Horse Derby on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. It was another half-length back in third to Moonin the Eagle, who was disqualified and placed 10th in a move that elevated Cobalt Creek into the show spot.
Kiss My Hocks ($7.20) was the champion 2-year-old male of 2014. He covered the 440 yards on a track rated fast in 21.57 seconds. G.R. Carter Jr. was aboard for trainer Toby Keeton.
Kiss My Hocks races for Conda Maze and Tyler Graham. He was a two-length winner of his Rainbow Derby trial July 5. Last year, he won 6 of 7 starts, including the $563,950 Sam Houston Futurity and the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity.
